Our Day:
We have a basic schedule which varies daily according to the moods and needs of our students. Meal times and pick-up/drop-off times are always the same. We also do a circle in the morning and afternoon.
Whereas we believe consistency is important we also consider variety to be the spice of life. Our schedule stays essentially the same, however we practice flexibility for three main reasons:
- We promote an "emergent curriculum" in which the interests and needs of the children guide our explorations. We also follow the collective energy of the group allowing us to seize "teachable moments" according to the circumstances. Example? In January, while studying water and the water cycle as a general theme for the month, we had a pleasant snow. The children were all bundled up and sent outside to catch snowflakes on their tongues. We do not like to miss exciting opportunities for positive experiences in the name of a set daily schedule. Our students and teachers thrive on this spontaneous excitement.
- We hope to teach the children that being flexible, innovative and creative helps to provide for effective problem solving.
- Along with our daily classroom activities we also offer swimming and gymnastic classes through the school. Talk to one of the teachers regarding details for these programs.
