Transitions!

Morning Drop-offs:
Morning transitions can be very difficult in the beginning, but as the children grow more comfortable coming to school they will become accustomed to the ritual. We have a few suggestions that may help your child move more quickly toward independence and make this time easier for you both.

  1. Encourage your child to walk from your car or bike into school.
  2. Allow your child to remove their own shoes, coats and backpacks and put them where they belong.
  3. Allow yourself 5-10 minutes for dropping off. This will give you time to give hugs, kisses and to say goodbye. This really means a lot to your child.
  4. Take time to read a book with your child at least once a week before you leave. Your involvement will help your child feel more comfortable about their environment. This is also a great time for them to show off their confidence in their own world.
Afternoon Pick-ups and drop-offs:
Most of you have been witness to our problem with the pick-up and drop-off of children at 12:30 pm. We want to thank everyone for cooperating while we figure out how to make this transition time easier. We anticipate this transition to become more difficult as the weather turns wetter and colder, however with increasing cooperation and understanding these new changes will make the time easier for everyone.
  1. Please try to come exactly at 12:30 PM (no earlier please as the children will not be finished with lunch.)
  2. If it is not raining, your child will get ready and wait for you outside with a teacher.
  3. If it is raining please enter the classroom quietly or wait outside for your child. At this time of day the children need to be focused on finishing their lunches, cleaning up after themselves and moving into our quiet rest-time. This can be especially difficult when the weather does not allow us to have an outside play time after lunch. The energy level in the classroom rises with extra people and voices in the room so extra consideration at this time is most greatly appreciated.
  4. Please try to save lengthy questions or concerns for more appropriate times. (Try to reach Kim by phone 1:30- 3:00PM)
  5. Please bring your child to school well fed.
*****Afternoon drop off is between 12:30 PM and 1 PM*****.
We will no longer accept children dropped-off between the times of 1 PM and 2 PM. This is nap/rest- time and disruptions can be especially hard on the children sleeping. Please respect this new policy. If you cannot be here by 1PM please wait until 2PM to bring your child.

Thank you.
